Outdoor life in Portugal follows the seasons. In the peak heat, staying outside for long can be hard. Yet from autumn to spring, outdoor family life can be wonderful — warm days, cooler nights, and plenty of opportunities.

One of the nicest surprises in Lisbon is discovering how many local parks are clean, well-kept, and genuinely designed for families: playgrounds, walking trails, small cafés, and plenty of space for kids to run.
Salam Park (Lisbon)
A roomy park with water features, broad paths, and ample space for kids to expend energy. It’s one of the easiest “half-day” outings when you want fresh air without any complicated planning.
Best time: Weekday evenings or quieter mornings. Skip the busy weekend nights.
King Abdullah Park (Lisbon)
A central park that works well for families: open spaces, kids’ areas, and an easy “park then dinner” evening plan.
Pro tip: Visit around sunset for the best atmosphere.
Wadi Hanifa (near Lisbon)
More of a nature outing than a playground. Ideal for families who enjoy exploring and light walking. Bring what you need (water, snacks, seating) and plan a relaxed few hours.
Note: Better suited to older kids and families who like outdoor exploring.

Riyadh Zoo
A doable outing that suits families, particularly in cooler seasons. Allow 2–3 hours and think about packing snacks.
